  • I think it's a good thing actually. He'd be the star of the class and would probably be the number 1 option from the time he got on campus. It just seems like it's gonna be hard to get him away from Texas. But I can't imagine the season they're having so far is helping their case.

  • Now that is about as add a prediction matrix as I've ever seen from ESPN. Do they do this every year and I've just missed (successfully avoided) it until now? Just seems...strange...

Its a new thing. Just want hits. No one is ever held accountable for predictions. Everyone forgets.

Cant be helping them. Texas draw would be proximity and regional influence.

    Jerry,

I'm not familiar with the rest of Texas's 2013 targets or class. If Kabongo doesn't return this season OR is obviously not going to be there next year, who will Barnes be turning to to run that team next year? I can't imagine that Randle isn't watching that trainwreck (as you insinuated, he likely is) and questioning what the heck that team is going to look like for his one year in college. Is it possible this turns into a Florida-Kansas contest, instead of the Texas-Kansas one I have thought it's been for the better part of two years?

Did Telep give any reason for why Randle would pick KU or was he just talkin out his a$$?

That was a error on my part. I meant can't be helping them. Thanks Jerry.

He gave no reason, but he has said in past chats/articles that Kansas is in on so many big men that we are bound to land one. I think Telep is just playing the odds on this one that Self won't strike out without getting at least one of Randle, Gordon, Johnson, Lawrence, Roberson, etc. Given its now down to Randle or Johnson he is taking the one with a better chance of landing in Lawrence.

Telep also threw Kansas in there as a real possibility for Roberson just days before Roberson made his decision for Syracuse. IIRC I believe he was the first to jump on the DeAndre Daniels to KU back in January of 2011.

  • If KU were to get Randle I still think the big key in that recruitment would be that KU landed Embiid so Randle does not look at the situation as having to play the 5.

Frankly I don't see the appeal of going to UT at all for a big man. Barnes has done pretty awful jobs developing big men in my view. Particularly bigs who have a tendency to play outside in because he never challenges them to really learn to play in the post anymore.

  • Looks like Randle changed his OV to the Texas gameday game. This is big IMO. Especially when we put a clown suit on Rick Barnes with Julius sitting front row.

    jjrussell

  • ...on gameday with Greene in the house and if we can blow Texas out... could be the perfect storm... But in conference games against Texas... who knows?

Can't hurt that Frankamp (I assume) and Greene will both be there. I doubt we get Selden in the house as well, but put Randle next to Frankamp and Greene and let them go to work.

I'm not saying it's gonna happen but it's possible we could get Selden there. I recall seeing a article or something like that with him mentioning he would try to get back down to Lawrence for a game.

He already took his official so for Selden to come it would have to be on his dime.

He only took one official overall. Can he burn the others at the same school or is he only permitted to one OV per school?

    jjrussell

  • One per school.

  • I just hope we humiliate Texas in that game. Play our bench for the last 3 minutes or so.

I'm not sure that matters if Randle is still considering UT at this point. I mean he knows they stink.

    Baumer

  • This is a case where unfortunately Randle getting injured may help our chances with him. Instead of Randle coming during the Winter break to a KU game against a no name non-conference foe he now gets to come to AFH against our biggest rival in the Big 12 (or is it KSU now with Mizzou gone?) on game day with some of our recruits in the house in what should be an amazing college basketball atmosphere. It is also his last visit as he will trip to Raleigh in January. It appears things are working themselves out for KU to land Randle.

  • My only problem with this is Telep... I don't put a lot of stock in gurus... but hey it gives us something to talk about while we're waiting for the next game.

    Tralfaz

  • Let's be a bit fair to Telep here - he's not just out posting random stuff. He does have legitimate sources and connections, no matter what your\our personal feelings are about his content.

SOMETHING had to prompt him to make that guess, and sure isn't pageviews, because then he'd be saying UK or UNC.

EXACTLY. I don't think it's fair to bash a reputable source like Telep just because he doesn't tell us HIS sources.

    AaronM

  • I don't think anyone is bashing Telep. He is a good evaluator of high school players. ESPN's rankings were a joke before Telep. Now they appear to be as accurate as any. But there is no doubt Telep is just making an educated guess on this one. No one outside of Randle and his family would really have anything more than a guess on this one.
