McD's

  • Randle being off the list is one of the reasons my attitude about these things is so...blah... I'm happy for the kids who want the attention and the honor, but we've done quite well with far fewer McD's AA's than Duke, UK, or UNC. Remember: David and Travis Wear were McD's kids, in the same year that Thomas Robinson was not...

  • Of course -- it's all about honor for the kids and bragging rights for the players. Maryland is the only team to win a title without a McD's kid, but that's correlation not causation. Top kids do tend to make it and top kids tend to win titles.

It's still fun to debate and (in this case) criticize for problems with the process. As to that, Jerry has said Randle was nominated but ineligible because he had to play in half his HS's games this season. That's a fair rule, but goes back to the fundamental issues I have -- transparency. If people understand the rules, and know who votes, it's a better process.

  • Now Jason Jordan tweets this:

"I'll say this; McDonald's is absolutely OPEN to adding Julius Randle as its 25th man. They've done it before and are watching his comeback."

So is he eligible or not? Does he just need to prove he's healthy? Does he have to prove he's still good? McD's needs transparent rules and voting. /rant continues

  • On the girls side my old HS landed their first McDonalds AA in the school's history with Jessica Washington getting the honor. Congrats.

Honestly, I think this might have more to do with them not wanting to leave someone else out for a player that can't participate.

The "but he committed to Duke/UNC" awards go to:

247Sports ranked 49 Kennedy Meeks, 53 ranked Matt Jones, joined by #50 Demetrious Jackson (Notre Dame).

Those two players being in are a joke.

Especially over players like Frankamp and Greene.
