    2015 Basketball Recruit Rankings

The 247Sports rankings are determined by our recruiting analysts after countless hours of personal observations, film evaluation and input from our network of scouts. Players are ranked by position, grouped qualitatively with a star ranking and given a numerical ranking based on their future potential.

  • Any early names that KU fans should particularly follow?

  • Not sure what Jerry thinks, but I would keep an eye on Elijah Thomas from Dallas. The director of the Team Texas program, Wes Grandstaff, has a good relationship with Coach Self and has sent a few kids up to Lawrence. Wes also has a very talented son, Austin Grandstaff, in the 2015 class and I would guess that Kansas would be in on both kids until the end of their recruitment.

Those are two to keep an eye on. Austin Grandstaff will likely be a four-star.

Would think King McClure is a guy to track.

  • Jerry, you talk about Austin Grandstaff being a four-star prospect. I've watched Austin play a great deal over the years but could you provide your opinion on him as a player? Thanks!

Heady player who is good with the ball. Shoots it well. Has savvy. Not very athletic. Crafty and has some size for a shooting guard.

What are your thoughts on him, Matt?

  • I would assume with all the time Self and staff have spent at Prestonwood Christian the last few years Mickey Mitchell would be a prospective recruit for Kansas.

He's the guy I really want in 2015. I think he has star written all over him. He could be a point forward type.

  • Jerry, I agree with your take. Very good with the ball, excellent basketball IQ, and shoots it well. Can score in the mid-range enough to keep defenders that age honest. Good size and very good passer. The release on his shot needs to get a lot quicker in my opinion and I wonder how much upside he has due to his lack of explosiveness. He is already a year older than most kids in his class, which gives me some cause for concern. Great kid who would be good in the locker room. Can he develop into a John Scheyer type of player???

It will be interesting to see if he and Elijah are a package deal. I know these are rare but I also know that both of these kids take their unofficial visits together, both riding with Austin's father Wes when they go on their visits. The kids are very close.

  • A couple of notes on Mitchell. 1) If I heard correctly, he tore his ACL in a football game in the past couple of weeks. 2) I believe he is originally from Florida, so staying close to home probably won't be as important to him as it would some other kids.

  • Interesting note about Team Texas...isn't that Julius Randle's team as well?

I'd certainly take Austin if he's the player I've heard described here. I've never seen him play, but we can always find room for one or two good ballhandlers with high basketball IQs and good shots. Heck, we could use one of those right now! :-)

  • Julius plays for the Team Texas Titans. Long story behind that one that I will share with you.

  • I'm not terribly high on Mitchell. If I remember right, he's quite a bit older than his peers. I like him, but I'm just not sure if he'll still be so highly regarded once he's a junior\senior.

I struggle a little with Mickey Mitchell being ranked on the elite level. On one hand he was one of the most productive players on the circuit. On the other, he doesn't appear to have a lot of upside. So the question is how much of his production will translate to the next levels. Will be thinking a lot about this when get chance to scout him again.
