As great as Jeff was, Travis really was a rock today. I rolled my eyes all day at the fawning over Oladipo and Craft as the best perimeter defenders in the country who came through in the clutch. Without Travis, that first half would have been a blowout, and he holds one of UNC's top two scorers to 5 points. Just amazing.
Travis is going to be a huge loss. A guy you can put on the other teams best small and he just makes them go away for the most part. Hell, Oladipo could not stop Wyatt today. While he had similar numbers against KU most came with Releford on the bench in foul trouble. When he was on the floor we defended that kid fairly well.
It would be nice to see Travis get to 1,000 points. Not to dismiss Travis, his lock down defense will be missed. But Withey will be the one we are saying next year quite a bit that we really miss.
Both will be tremendous losses. Releford totally shuts opposing non point guards down. Ask Brady Heslip how good Releford is. And Withey really prevents a lot of things in most teams' offenses.
It doesn't really get national attention, but that's really why our defense is so good. You have Withey dominating the paint, and Travis shutting down the team's best perimeter player. Your whole team is going to have to be hitting jumpers at a good clip to beat us. (Unless we beat ourselves, of course.)
