I'm hard on him and notably not one of his biggest cheerleaders, but that was easily the best I've ever seen him play.
He was all over the boards, played tough-nosed defense, and really went after Gipson\Henriquez.
He was better defensively on the outside than Young was which surprised me. Moved his feet against Southwell and really bothered him. I think we are a few practices from Perry seeing some crunch time minutes...
I'm somewhere between you two, I think. I have high expectations for him in the long run, but I've never bought into him being a big-time key this year. Now that we know that teams are going to sag completely off Young in the high post, we need Perry to play 18-20 minutes per game and to be able to knock down jumpers while not dropping the intensity Young brings. Recently, he's brought the intensity, which is going to be huge. Next is hitting something outside of 4 feet.
That being said, unless he starts hitting higher than the approximately 12% he's currently shooting from the free throw line, there's no way he's playing late in any game.
What encouraged me about Perry in this game was that he played, in my opinion, better defense than Young and held his own on the glass all night. That was against an outside threat in Southwell and that makes me feel a lot better about him seeing the floor. I think the FT thing should turn around. He was not a bad FT shooter in high school from what I remember.
