I haven't seen this posted yet, apologies if it has, but I spoke with 2014 4-star Lake Highland Prep PG Joel Berry yesterday who told me he doesn't have any favorites at the moment, but UNC, "the Florida schools," Ohio State and Kansas are recruiting him the hardest.
Berry is taking his first OV to UNC on the 18th of this month. No timetable for decision, but if he's comfortable somewhere, he won't be afraid to pull the trigger. Billy Donovan is scheduled to have an in-home with him on Jan. 14th.
Interesting tidbit: Berry told me Roy Williams told Berry and his parents during his in-home visit that UNC was a great school. "That was one of the reasons why he left Kansas for UNC."
Interesting. As good as Berry is, he doesn't fit the typical Roy mold for a PG. Having Britt and Paige on board already would also seem to hinder UNC's chances, but you never know.
I know Kansas loves him, but he's down the pecking order from Tyus Jones and Emmanuel Mudiay for them as of now. I'm a big fan of Berry and have always come away impressed when seeing his E1T1 squads.
I actually think Berry does fit UNC mold... loves to run the floor. He mentioned his favorite players were Ty Lawson and Raymond Felton because his game was similar to theirs.
I think if he doesn't commit to UNC in a couple weeks on his OV, things could really open up.
Do you think there's any real chance he gets out of the visit? Watching some of our targets on Twitter, Berry seems to be quite fond of UNC and UNC fans seem to be up there with Syracuse for the most aggressive using the service to recruit.
If that quote gets out, a bunch of KU fans are going to go crazy.

Sure, but I don't think he has the same speed\athleticism that Felton or Lawson had. It's funny because I always thought he would be a good fit at Duke and that Tyus Jones (Duke's top target) was a perfect fit for Roy.
I would guess of the things coaches tell prospective recruits that's pretty mild.
It sounds like he's a UNC lean right now... maybe just because he's getting ready for an official visit and that's what's on his mind.
Live to love, love to live
As far as the "great school" comment, I think he meant that more as a compliment towards UNC, not a dig at Kansas.
Berry texted me that he doesn't have any favorites, but "UNC is at the top." This is UNC's no. 1 target for '14 as far as I'm concerned. If he doesn't commit to UNC on his OV, I see more schools getting visits. Kansas could be one of them, especially considering he can visit the Florida schools on his own time.

*sarcasm mode on* Has no favorites but UNC is on top....sounds like a kid that clearly needs a top educational experience...*sarcasm mode off*
I honestly haven't been following UNC recruiting all that close for a while. It seems like more often than not we are after different people and generally KU and UNC use totally different players so it just does not seem like we cross paths a lot anymore.
I am most intrigued for UNC by the Kennedy Meeks kid. Looks like Roy has finally recognized that running out a bunch of rail thin kids at post is not going to get him very far yet he seems infatuated with filling his whole roster with kids like that.
