The Big XII looks pretty weak right now primarily because the next 3 best teams talent wise (or next 4 if you throw in Texas) are all coached by clowns.
Bruce Weber- Dec 18th, Illinois scores 85 points with its new coach in a win on Gonzaga's home floor. Today, KSU is on pace for 45 points with 11 minutes left. I hope that his time at KSU puts this most ridiculous of accolades he has earned to bed. The guy is not a great offensive coach. The offense KSU has this year is almost wholly because Frank Martin turned them into offensive rebounding maniacs. They are horribly by almost every other offensive metric out there.
Scot Drew- Can't coach defense. At all. You would think he would pick up on something that would work for him by now but he has not. Baylor is a god awful defensive team that does not share the ball very well at all. All hallmarks of bad coaching. I am sure Baylor fans will put their fingers in their ears before shoving their head back in the sand (or up their ass) and deny it until the end of time. But they guy can't coach and can't develop talent. If he is not cheating to get recruits than his sales pitch has to amount to "come here and do absolutely anything you want while on the floor".
Travis Ford - Smart just might drag this team on his shoulders to some level of success. Lord knows it won't be due to anything Travis Ford does. Like all of his teams at OSU they suffer from a chronic inability to share the ball and because of that they are not really efficient on offense. The funny thing is with Smart on the team you have to think if he got just a little teaching to this end that it would happen. It still might. I expect OSU to be the biggest competition for KU in the league.
We might as well throw out an honorable mention to Rick Barnes as well who has a team at Texas in his 93rd season there that is the 2nd worst offensive team in a league that includes Texas Tech and TCU.

Barnes just lost Kobongo. Things won't get better.

Gone for the year?
Yeah, Texas is appealing but according to Yahoo! Sports he's ineligible for the year.
Apparently it would have been no more than 10 games based on illegal benefits but the NCAA thinks he lied to them (think Dez Bryant precedent).
Baylor fans will not hear of Scott Drew being a bad coach. First thing they will refer to is how bad it was before him and then quickly go to his recruiting. Now, both are valid points, but when you have NBA talent on your team every year you would think they could accomplish more?.... I won't even address the recruiting as we all have an opinion as to how top talent flocks to Waco, TX
Oh and on Travis Ford, that guy takes the cake for bad coaching. Most of the OSU fans realize this but also know that he has a contract that makes it hard to fire him and then a plethora of talent this year which will carry him past this year. How he continues to land talent is baffling really, but once Smart and Nash leave his team is going to blow chunks.

I agree, but I still think the most egregious fallacy is this expectation among the media, both locally and nationally, that Weber would have a better offense than Martin at KSU. There is no logical reason to think this would happen. The guy caught lightening in a bottle for about 2 years with a group of players he could not hope to recruit himself. Other than that he has been an awful offensive coach.
