Breakdown on Kansas recruiting class

  • No. 2 class nationally

Brannen Greene and Wayne Selden lead Kansas' class

Going into this week, Kansas had a good 2013 recruiting class. Now it is a great class with the addition of a quality big man in Joel Embiid.

  • That's great stuff, Jerry. Thanks!

I've heard varying things about Greene's athleticism as a run-and-jump athlete. What have you seen from him in that regard? Self loves to throw the backdoor lob to his wings when they've got that ability - Rush caught practically a billion of them during his three years in Lawrence. Is he that kind of guy?

  • Can Seldon play the point?

How much athleticism could we throw out there next year with a line-up on the floor of Embiid, Traylor, Greene, McLemore, and Seldon. I know Ellis is obviously the superior 4, but if we want a team that could run and play physical this line-up would be it.

I'm not sure Embiid is ready to be a physical four, but by next year I expect Ellis and Traylor both to excel at that, and it wouldn't shock me if Lucas was ready for that as well. Selden is capable of running the point like a typical Self combo guard, I believe.

  • All, Jerry will try to make is way back here tonight or in the morning, but as you can imagine, it's kind of a busy day. :-) Last I communicated with him, he still had quite a few national publication write ups to complete.

I've seen Brannen Greene run and jump and its pretty good. He is not so good laterally. Rush was/is (I know he is injured) good laterally.

He is one of those guys who could play some point but I don't expect to see that a lot.

That would be a big athletic five.

  • Don't see Joel Embiid ever being anything but a five.

PG Frank Mason (#103 247Sports/ #154 247Composite)
There won't be many competitive and mentally/physically imposing players in college basketball next year as Mason. He is a bulldog of a defender, fights for the ball off the glass and the floor and will in general do whatever it takes to win. Not much of an outside shooter at this point, Mason's offense is predicated on his ability to put pressure on the defense through his dribble penetration.

Damn, Mason sounds like a beast. He seems to be the perfect pg to pair with big time shooters like Greene, White and Frankamp. His ability to drive and dish will open up a lot of space for those guys.

And a Mason/Seldon back court sounds like a load defensively.

  • With the likelihood of Roberson going elsewhere what are the thoughts of KU possibly adding to the class outside of the obvious Randle or Wiggins.....

Don't think there is much going on outside the guys you mentioned.
