American University Preview

The Patriots have shot the ball incredibly well this year, knocking down 39.7% of their long range attempts. However, American University has struggled to take care of the basketball this season and currently has a team assist to turnover ratio of 0.85:1. This is an undersized team that struggles on the glass and wants to play at a slow pace.

Kansas Keys to the Game

3pt Field Goal Defense
The Patriots shoot the ball very well from beyond the arc, knocking down 39.7% of their long range attempts. On the other end, the Jayhawks have been outstanding lately in defending the 3pt line, holding Belmont, Richmond, and Ohio State to miserable shooting performances from beyond the arc.
Pound the Glass
Kansas should have a decided edge in the paint in this contest and they need to convert their offensive rebounds into 2nd chance points. American University has struggled on the glass, especially on the offensive end, so expect the Jayhawks to end up with a decided rebound advantage.
Tempo
American University will try to slow the pace of this game down. It’s important that the Jayhawks pressure the basketball on the defensive end, force turnovers, and get into transition on both makes and misses. Kansas has much more depth and the more possessions this game has the better it is for the Jayhawks.
